On the morning of June 9, 2026 local time, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and President Xi Jinping, accompanied by General Secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea (WPK) and President of the State Affairs of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) Kim Jong Un, visited the Central Cadres Training School of the WPK in Pyongyang.
At around 11 a.m., Xi Jinping arrived by car. Kim Jong Un greeted him in front of the school’s landmark tower symbolizing the WPK. Hundreds of teachers and students lined the route to welcome him, and representatives presented flowers to Xi Jinping.

Accompanied by Kim Jong Un, Xi Jinping entered a tiered classroom on campus. Inside, students were seated in orderly rows, while an instructor was teaching a course on DPRK foreign relations, including content related to China-DPRK relations. Upon the arrival of the general secretaries of the two parties, the teachers and students all rose to their feet and gave them a warm round of applause. Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un paused to observe the class and nodded in approval from time to time.

After leaving the classroom, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un toured the campus in a battery-powered vehicle, listening to briefings on the school’s infrastructure and teaching arrangements along the way.

In a wooded area between teaching buildings, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un jointly planted a fir tree, shoveling soil and watering it together. The evergreen fir symbolizes the enduring and ever-renewing friendship between China and the DPRK. Subsequently, in the presence of the top leaders of the two parties and countries, Cai Qi and Member of the Presidium of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the WPK and Secretary of the WPK Central Committee Kim Jae Ryong jointly unveiled the tree-planting monument. The front of the monument bears the inscription “May the China-DPRK Friendship Last Forever” in both Chinese and Korean. Amid warm applause from accompanying officials and DPRK students, Xi Jinping and Kim Jong Un shook hands and posed for a photo in front of the monument.

Cai Qi, Wang Yi and other officials attended the activities.
